The ISD 196 Nordic Ski Team competes in boys and girls cross-country ski racing at both varsity and junior varsity levels within the South Suburban Conference, which includes teams from Prior Lake, Lakeville North and South, Burnsville, Shakopee, and Northfield.

The season runs from mid-November to mid-February and consists of regular season conference and non-conference meets, a conference championship, and for skiers who qualify, section and state meets.  Practices are scheduled daily after school at a number of ski trails in the area, such as Valleywood Golf Course, Lebanon Hills, and Hyland Park Reserve.  Practice and competition cover two different disciplines of cross-country skiing: Classic and Freestyle/Skate.

The ISD 196 Nordic Ski Team is composed of students from all ISD 196 high schools - Apple Valley, Eagan, Eastview, Rosemount, School of Environmental Studies - as well as 7th and 8th grade students from district middle schools - Black Hawk, Dakota Hills, Falcon Ridge, Rosemount, Scott Highlands, Valley.  While 6th grade students are welcomed to practice with the team, they do not participate in races.

The ISD 196 Nordic Ski Team athletes from the different schools train as a single team.  At meets, the group's skiers will wear different uniforms based on their school and level.
